Per Mertesacker at the club level and Robin van Persie are working together to win the Arsenal. Now, both players will likely face each other when defending their country in their opening Group B.
Mertesacker is under the banner of Germany, while Van Persie to strengthen the Netherlands. Both teams will meet in the second elimination game on 13 June.
Van Persie was serving the best season of his career by scoring 30 goals in the Premier League. On the other hand, Mertesacker appear slick in guarding rearguard.
Mertesacker admitted not wait to deal with Van Persie, who is sharp-sharp. Although both played for the club, but the tall defender was prepared to contain his team mate.
"We are looking forward to meet each other in the tournament," said Mertesacker to Arsenal Player.
"He was captain of the team (at Arsenal) and I always support him, but everything changes."
"It's very, very strange we are now the enemy but as a footballer you should still be able to cope with any situation and I look forward to meeting with Van Persie," he concluded.
Meanwhile, in the first game, Der Panzer will face Portugal. Mertesacker forbid the defeat as he strives to be the group winners.
"We must be ready from the beginning, it is the main thing in this tournament. You should not be lost, if so you will be close to the exit from the tournament the first game will be very important."
