Stewart Downing brought by Roy Hodgson to England's harsh criticism from many quarters. The players also think it was fair and was ready to respond with good performances on the pitch.
How could I not when Andy Johnson or Michael Carrick is relatively performed well with the team last season, unable to compete with Downing who ended his first season at Liverpool without any goals or assists?
So when Downing on the list of 23 names of players, Roy Hodgson's decision was immediately questioned. How can a player who has such statistics could come to the tournament for the
Euro 2012.
Downing was immediately became fans of jokes when his performance during the season compilation video shown on Youtube and there are only a blank screen during playback (see here).
Obviously this is not a good start Downing to jump in the European Cup with England. Pressure and weight will certainly continue to haunt every left winger penampian 27-year-old.
But Downing does not care about it and prefer to disprove all doubts over the performance with the Three Lions.
"Criticism makes you stronger. You always will be criticized if playing at the club for Liverpool, but they are a great club for a place to play," Downing said in the AFP.
"I enjoyed the first season with Liverpool and I believe will perform better next season," added the player is worth 20 million pounds.
