'Can Replace The Role of Young Rooney'

England will be without Wayne Rooney in the first two games the 2012 European Cup. According to Stewart Downing, the role usually played by Rooney could be taken over by Ashley Young. Rooney will miss England's opening match against France in Group D on Monday (11.06.2012) and Sweden, four days later. Manchester United striker was suspended.

Downing assess Rooney position behind the main striker could be filled by Young. Although more often played on the wing sector, he believed Young was able to play as good as Rooney. "He can give feedback, scoring, and maybe now we have other players who can play at that position as well as Rooney," Downing said on ESPN Star. "You can see a series of matches which he lived and he scored a few goals that enhance their self-confidence," added the Liverpool winger. "He's a great player, a good kid and I personally want to play with him because we seem to be on the same wavelength," says Downing.
